个人简介
Mazyar Yazdani /mɑːz-yɑːr Yæz-dɑːni/, a toxicologist, began his research career by studying the mechanisms of action of hazardous substances, with emphasis on oxidative stress induction and in vitro (cell culture) method development. He later linked the role of oxidative stress to pathophysiology of dry eye disease and treatment of corneal epithelial (limbal) stem cell deficiency. Currently, as a core member of the Metabolomics & Metabolic Molecular Biology group, he is investigating the role of metabolic changes in rare diseases (e.g., neonatal metabolic disorders) and eye diseases (e.g., dry eye). The main goal is to better understand the mechanisms underlying disease development using mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. Apart from these, he has always had a keen interest in biological role and effects of oxygen.
Selected projects:
Mazyar is involved in several projects (on eye, brain, blood, infection, dietary, etc.), but his main fields of interest are neurology and ophthalmology:
– Kearns–Sayre syndrome (e.g., Salvador et al 2023), Pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy (e.g., Böhm et al 2022), Neurotoxicity (e.g., Mathisen et al 2013), Dry eye disease (e.g., Yazdani et al 2021a)
Highlights:
– Proposing corneal oxygenation as a new function for tear film lipid layer: Yazdani (2023)
– A call for awareness on correcting oxygen levels in cultures of retinal pigment epithelium: Yazdani (2022)
– Proposing mechanisms of oxidative stress in pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy: Yazdani and Elgstøen (2021)
– Methodological reviews: Yazdani (2015), Yazdani (2016)
– Pioneer reviews: Yazdani et al (2019a), Yazdani et al (2019b) and Yazdani et al (2021b)
– Under the Most Read/Downloaded Articles (All Time): Tashbayev et al (2020), Skogvold et al (2021) and Yazdani et al (2021b)
– On the News: "Eyelash Growth Serums" in VG Newspaper (2021)
