Dr. Mayur Kurade earned his Ph.D. from the Shivaji University, Kolhapur, India for his in-depth investigation on the textile industrial wastewater treatment using microbial catalysts. He has conducted his postdoctoral research in Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong focusing on applied microbiology for sludge processing and wastewater treatment to upgrade the existing bioleaching methods of sewage sludge. Since 2015, he is working at Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea as Research Assistant Professor and doing world-class research in ‘Environmental Biotechnology’ focusing on wastewater treatment and organic solid waste reduction.
Currently, at Hanyang University, his research team is conducting extensive research investigations to develop cost-effective technologies to resolve the energy and pollution crisis. Considering the rise of organic waste pollution problems over the globe, he has devoted himself to develop innovative methods of waste minimization with simultaneous generation of precious fuel products through anaerobic co-digestion and fermentation. He has significantly contributed to establishing a pioneering technology that integrates wastewater treatment through microalgae cultivation and simultaneously generates biofuels from the microalgal biomass recovered from this treatment. His specific research interests include biodegradation, bioremediation, environmental microbiology, bioenergy, and biofuels. He is serving as principal investigator for a national research project which deals with bioaugmentation for improving the high-strength organic waste degradability and improve biofuel yield. He is utilizing the state-of-the-art methodology and analysis in molecular biology and bioinformatics to reveal the microbial metabolism and interactions among diverse microbial groups in the microbiome.
Dr. Kurade’s world-class research in “Environmental biotechnology” has enabled him to publish numerous research articles in well-known peer-reviewed international journals of high repute along with book chapters and patents focusing on bioremediation and bioenergy with an average impact factor above 6, Citations of >3000, H Index of 33 (based on Google Scholar). Some of his research articles are appeared as “Highly cited articles” in Web-of-Sciences.
He is among the “TOP 2% Scientist" (World Scientists in yearly-2019 database published in “PLOS Biology” on October 16, 2020) in his research field. He has been selected be the Biological Research Information Center (BRIC) in the list of the extraordinary researchers in South Korea as “한비사” for delivering remarkable research outcomes in the field of Environmental Biotechnology. He is serving as Session Chair and co-organizer of the Geochemistry division in American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition, USA. He is also acting as an editorial board member for international journals including Frontiers in Microbiology, Environmental Technology, Energies, and Heliyon. Moreover, he is voluntarily contributing as a potential reviewer for top-class journals in Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology such as Water Research, Chemical Engineering Journal, Bioresource Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, and Environment International.
