Dr Maxwell Fordjour Antwi-Afari is currently a Lecturer in Construction & Qs at the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Infrastructure and Sustainable Engineering, College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Aston University, Birmingham, B4 7ET, UK. He is also the Programme Director for BSc Joint Construction Project Management Undergraduate Degree Study between Aston University, UK and Northeast Forestry University, China Mainland. He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Building and Real Estate, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from April 2019 to July 2020. He attained his PhD in Construction Information Technology at the Department of Building and Real Estate at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University through the Postgraduate Studentship Scholarship in March 2019. He also received his MPhil in Building Technology and worked as a Graduate Assistant at the Department of Building Technology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi-Ghana in August 2015. Maxwell obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Technology and Management (First Class Honours) at the Department of Building Technology, KNUST, Kumasi-Ghana in August 2012. He worked as a Teaching/Research Assistance in KNUST from 2012 to 2013.
His research interests focus on construction management and engineering, construction health and safety, smart construction informatics, construction ergonomics, digital technologies and innovations (e.g., building information modelling (BIM), wearable sensors, robotics), technology transfer in construction and biomechanical analysis. Maxwell is currently serving as an external examiner, and a reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals including Automation in Construction, Elsevier; Advanced Engineering Informatics, Elsevier; Informatics in Medicine Unlocked, Elsevier; Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management; and International Journal of Construction Management. He is also serving as a member of editorial boards for other journals. Maxwell received the Best Building Technology Student Award in March 2012 at KNUST-Kumasi. Maxwell received the Most Popular Presentation Award in June 2017, and Gibrine Adam Promising Young Scholar Award in August 2017. He also has received Occupational Safety and Health Student Research Scholarship in March 2018 and Commendation Award in The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) (Hong Kong) Outstanding Paper Award in September 2018. Moreover, Maxwell was the Grand Winner of Occupational Safety and Health Best Project Scholarship for the 2017/2018 academic year organized by the statutory Occupational Safety and Health Council, Hong Kong in January 2019. Furthermore, he received the third-place award of Annual Best Dissertation Competition 2018 scheduled on January 2019 organized by the HK PolyU CIB Student Chapter among Post-graduate Degree programmes in the four departments at Faculty of Construction and Environment, HK PolyU. In addition, he was honored to receive the Outstanding Student Project Award 2018/2019 academic year which was adjudicated by the Hong Kong Ergonomics Society (HKES) in May 2019. Recently, he was nominated and adjudged at the Best Newcomer for Aston Achievement Awards 2021. He has published more than 50 papers over the years in high-ranked peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has successfully received and participated in writing several funded research grants and research proposals. He has also been the principal investigator of numerous research projects funded by Aston Institute of Urban Technology and the Environment (ASTUTE) Seedcorn Grants and Aston Research and Knowledge Exchange Pump Priming Fund. He is a Member of the Hong Kong Ergonomics Society (HKES), Associate Member, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Incorporate Member of Ghana Institute of Construction (GIOC), and a Student Member of The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB), and Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS).
