PhD in Materials Science and Engineering on Polymers and Composites by Federal
University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil (2007) with Portuguese academic degree of
Doctor registered at the University of Minho in 2015. Master of Science in Materials
Engineering on Ceramic Composites by Institute of Military Engineering (1994). Bachelor in
Chemical Engineering by Institute of Military Engineering (1988). Research Experience on:
Enzymatic synthesis of sugar esters in organic medium with tensoactive properties for use
as monomers; Production of fatty acids from vegetable oils for use as liposoluble
surfactants and monomers; Synthesis of polymers with branched sugars and intelligent
copolymers with stimulus-responsive properties, through free radical chemical catalysis,
using cryogenic strategies in the reaction medium with potencial applications in
bioengineering; Research Experience on chemical characterization of polymers by 13CNMR
and 1H-NMR; Infrared spectroscopy; Determination of conversion rates from
reagents to products by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC); Determination
of Average Molar Mass of Macromolecules by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC);
Thermal analysis by TG, DTG, DTA, DSC; Classification of viscous fluids in rotating
viscometers; Dynamic and oscillatory tests using rheometer; Synthesis and
characterization of ceramic composites with high porosity or high density produced from
mechanical blends of metals, metal oxides and carbon by means of self-sustained
combustion synthesis at high temperatures (SHS) ; Scanning Electron Microscopy with Xray
microanalysis (SEM/EDS), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-ray Diffraction
Spectroscopy (XRD) and Vickers Microhardness; Research and Development of high
purity graphite as moderator in air-cooled nuclear reactors. Research and Development of
thermal batteries with solid electrolyte (metallic calcium) for ballistic surface-to-air missiles.
Adjunct Professor and Guest Professor in Public and Private Universities, teaching several
disciplines, such as General Chemistry I and II, Environmental Chemistry, Industrial
Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Research I and II,
Environmental Engineering, Chemistry of Polymers, Preparation of Polymeric Materials,
Technologies for Treatment of Industrial and Domestic Waste and Technologies for
Treatment of Atmospheric Emissions, Colloids and Surfactants, Inorganic scales in oil
wells. Participant of Industrial Biotechnology Course at the National Institute of Advanced
Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Tsukuba, Japan from 2001 to 2002, making part
of the team researchers on enzymatic synthesis of (bio) surfactants and (bio) polymers.
Currently works as Academic Co-advisor of pos-graduate and graduate students in
Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Environmental Management.
