Bio
Matthew is an associate professor in the Centre for Mental Health, located in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. He is a biostatistician by training and leads the Mental Health Epidemiology Unit – a unit specialising in the design and analysis of mental health studies, including randomised controlled trials, cohort studies, data linkage studies, case-control studies, sample surveys and meta-analyses.
Matthew has attracted over $30 million in research funding, including a prestigious Australian Research Council Future Fellowship and a Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Dame Kate Campbell Fellowship. He has published more than 200 studies in peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine (4 publications), Lancet Psychiatry (6 publications), Lancet Public Health (3 publications) , the BMJ (1 publication) and the British Journal of Psychiatry (4 publications). He is a member of the International Advisory Board for Lancet Psychiatry and Advisory Board member of eClinicalMedicine ( a new Lancet journal that publishes high-quality open-access research). He also serves on the Science Assessing Committee for New Zealand's Health Research Council, New Zealand's premier funder of health and medical research.
