Bio
Matthew Mitchell received the B.Sc. (with hons.) and the Ph.D. degrees in physics from The University of Calgary, AB, Canada, in 2012 and 2020, respectively. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, Vancouver, BC, Canada, The University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal for his Ph.D. thesis work on fabricating photonic devices from single-crystal diamond, which he utilized to demonstrate optomechanically mediated wavelength conversion and amplification of light. This work was an important step towards building a quantum computer based on solid-state qubits like the nitrogen vacancy center in diamond. He also co-founded the University of Calgary nanoGroup in 2013, which is a student run organization built to cultivate and support collaboration within the nanotechnology community on campus. He has authored or coauthored 12 journal articles and 20 refereed conference proceedings including two Postdeadline selections, and three invited talks. His research interests in cavity optomechanics, silicon photonics, photonic integrated circuits, optical packaging, and nanofabrication techniques,
