Dr. Schabath is an Associate Member (tenured) at the Moffitt Cancer Center with joint appointments in the Departments of Cancer Epidemiology and Thoracic Oncology. Dr. Schabath has expertise in molecular epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, quantitative imaging (radiomics), and health disparities. His earliest work focused on etiology and susceptibility research on the interplay of germline genetics and exposures on lung cancer risk. As a Member of the International Lung Cancer Consortium (ILCCO), Dr. Schabath continues to publish on the role of germline genetics on both risk and outcomes. Over the last decade, Dr. Schabath has developed a large and active research portfolio utilizing radiomic biomarkers to reduce false positives, for risk prediction, to discriminate between malignant and benign nodules, to distinguish between indolent and aggressive lung cancers, and to predict treatment response. Dr. Schabath also has an established track record in health disparities research among sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations (i.e., LGBT individuals). In addition to his robust research portfolio, Dr. Schabath is active in the scientific community as an editorial board member and regular reviewer for journals, as an active participant in many professional societies, a reviewer for NIH/NCI study sections, on the Programmatic Panel for the DOD Lung Cancer Research Program, and is a founding member of the NCCN Lung Cancer Screening guidelines committee.
