Bio
Prof. Mathew K. Moodley is currently Associate Professor of Physics in the School of Physics and Chemistry at UKZN. His research area is in utilizing lasers to produce 1D and 2D nanomaterials and thin films and the characterization of these materials for novel applications. In the past, Prof. Moodley was senior scientist at the National Laser Centre, CSIR(Pretroia) where he was involved in building novel laser sources and non-linear optical devices for military and civilian applications. He also held a position of group leader at the National Centre for Nanostructured Materials, CSIR before joining UKZN in 2011.
My research areas are:
1. Laser chemical vapour deposition of functional 1-D, 2-D nanomaterials.
2. Pulsed laser deposition of thin films and ultra-hard coatings
3. Laser induced plasma spectroscopy- nucleation dynamics by time resolved optical emission spectroscopy
4. Characterization of nanomaterials (Raman, photoluminescence, HRTEM/SEM etc)
5. Nanomaterials for nano-electronics and sensor fabrication
