个人简介
I am Masab Iqbal from Karachi, Pakistan, an optical communications geek and a quantum communications enthusiast. Masab earned his bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from Pakistan's NED University of Engineering and Technology. He joined leading R&D companies immediately after finishing his undergraduate studies, which inspired him to take another step forward and pursue a Master's Degree.
Masab was awarded the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship after being accepted into the Photonic Integrated Circuits, Sensors, and Networks (PIXNET) Master's program. He was able to spend a year at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy, and a year at Aston University in Birmingham, UK, as part of the PIXNET program. Masab explored and learned about optical communications and photonic integrated circuits during these two years, which led to his Master's thesis topic of 'Machine learning techniques for non-linearity mitigation in optical fibers.'
Masab is currently employed as an Early Stage Researcher under the Marie Skodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, as part of the REAL-NET project. He is also on secondment at Infinera in Portugal, which he hopes to finish by July 2022. His Ph.D. thesis focuses on developing techniques for safe and efficient optical networks. It investigates cryptographic methods that are specifically designed for easy implementation at the optical layer and are currently vulnerable to a variety of security threats. His doctoral thesis also investigates cost-effective and efficient data transmission techniques for both classical and quantum networks by enabling point-to-multipoint (P2MP) connections.
Masab has been able to continue to expand his knowledge not only in this field of expertise but also about different cultures while living in five different countries in less than four years while navigating the challenges of living in a pandemic-affected world.
