Highlights:
She obtained her PhD in 1988 in Medicinal Chemistry in the laboratory of the Prof. C. G. Wermuth (Strasbourg). Involved in a research program on pharmacological tools of the central nervous system (CNS), she contributed in particular to the discovery of the first competitive antagonist of γ-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB, J. Pharmacol. Exp.Ther. 1990, 255, 657). This pharmacological tool is now commercially available. During her post-doctoral internship in organic chemistry, in the group of Sir D. BARTON at College Station (Texas, USA), She participated in the elucidation of the mechanism of the selective functionalization of saturated hydrocarbons by Gif systems. (J. Am. Chem. Soc., 1989, 111, 7144). In 1990, she joined the CNRS as a research fellow at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Illkirch).
Since 1990, she has a double field of expertise: medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry. Her interests are focused on the discovery and development of pharmacological or therapeutic tools allowing a better understanding of the living (molecular mechanisms, cellular). Her therapeutic areas mainly target receptors (GPCR) of the central nervous system (pain, inflammation, neurodegenerative diseases...).She specifically initiated the research and development of RCPG's of endogenous neuropeptides with C-terminal RFamide sequence (Arg-Phe). The neuropeptide FF receptor (NPFF) was the first RCPG studied for its involvement in the modulation of hyperalgesia induced by prolonged administration of opioid analgesic. So, she developed a first series of N-acylated Arg-Phe dipeptides. The first selected antagonist (RF9) confirmed the validity of the physiological hypothesis (Proc Natl Acad Sci USA, 2006, 103, 466).
She acquired during these years a great know-how in aza heterocyclic chemistry especially for the construction of new scaffolds or their decorations. For 20 years she participated in the explosion of metallocatalyzed reactions that opened a wide field of research in the synthesis of C-C or C-N bonds. More recently, she developped a new research theme (green chemistry) by transposing these metallocatalyzed reactions into water. The results are in perfect rupture with the existing one, which opens new potentials (Green Chem; 2014, 16, 4170, ChemSusChem 2016, 9 3244 , Chem.Comm. 2019, 55,1623 ; ChemSusChem 2020, 13, 5224, ACS Catal. 2022, 1, 560). This research has resulted in ~ 50 publications in chemistry, which gives her international visibility in the field of the extension of the chemical space. In addition, her dual expertise in heterocyclic and medicinal chemistry gave her the opportunity to develop many long-term collaborations: i.e, a very structured collaboration with D. Rognan (LIT) allowed the discovery of extracellular inhibitors of the FLT3 receptor (Nat.Comm 2018 , 9, 1042).
