个人简介
I am an outstanding researcher with broad research capacities and national and international experience. During my career, I have used a multidisciplinary approach to study the mechanisms (i.e., epigenetic/transcriptional) by which environmental and genetic factors influence brain health and neurodevelopment. If I had to define my research career, I would outline three aspects as the most outstanding: a coherent research line (with strong critical thinking), new-creative and groundbreaking designs (favoring quality vs. quantity research output), and using translational and integrative methodological approaches (from cell cultures to molecular epidemiology approaches). As a result, I have published 25 scientific papers (11 as 1st author), cited more than 950 times, with an h and i10-index of 13 and 14. Additionally, I have submitted 2 papers, and 3 others are under preparation. Eighty-five % of my publications are in Q1, and 30% are in D1 journals.
I conducted a B.Sc. in Biochemistry (U. Autonoma de Barcelona) and an M.Sc. in Public Health (U. Pompeu Fabra). As I progressed through my postgraduate studies, I developed an interest in gene x environment interactions and the modulation of environmental factors to prevent pathological conditions. Thus, I became very interested in epigenetic mechanisms as potential orchestrators of these complex interactions. Therefore, I joined Dr. Kaliman and Prof. Pallàs labs at the U. of Barcelona to start my Ph.D. training with a highly competitive 4y-predoctoral fellowship (FPU). My work focused on the contribution of epigenetic mechanisms to aging and AD, and the effect of voluntary exercise on these mechanisms. To address this question, I used murine AD models and clinical samples, transferring basic research to the clinic and consolidating a translational career path. I also conducted a 8-month research stay in Prof. Rozen’s lab at McGill University (Canada), where I studied epigenetic and transcriptional changes associated with the risk of AD in mice with a dietary or genetic folate deficiency. Furthermore, I participated in two studies on the effects of stress reduction on epigenetics, telomeres, and inflammation in collaboration with researchers from the U. of Wisconsin and U. of California Davis. After completing my Ph.D. (awarded Cum laude), I conducted my 1st postdoc in Prof. Rozen’s lab, where I studied the impact of high folate consumption during pregnancy on gene expression and epigenetics of the placenta and the offspring brain. I was awarded two highly competitive grants from the Quebec Health Research Funding Agency (FRQS) in Canada, covering my salary for more than two years. In 2019, I was awarded a JdC-formación to join the team of Prof. Sunyer at the Institute of Global Health in Barcelona. There, I am currently investigating the impact of prenatal exposure to environmental factors (e.g. air pollution) on placental or blood epigenetics/transcriptomics and its association with neurodevelopment and childhood neurobehavior. To continue with this research, in 2020, the AGAUR awarded me a highly competitive 3-year fellowship (Beatriu de Pinós), and I was recently recognized with the seal of excellence in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Call. I am an active member of international consortiums such as Pregnancy And Childhood Epigenetics (PACE), where I participate in several collaborative studies (4 of which I am leading). Despite my junior position, I have also started a research line within PACE to lead studies on placental DNA methylation and neurobehavior. During all my career, I have obtained highly competitive fellowships that covered the cost of my salary, research complements and stays abroad: 2 fellowships for undergraduates (AGAUR collaboration, FARO global), 2 Ph.D. fellowships (FPU fellowship, FPU mobility grant), and 4 postdoctoral fellowships (FRQS (x2), JdC-formación, Beatriu de Pinós), accumulating more than 350000€. In addition, my research excellence has been recognized with several prizes and awards. My work has been presented in more than 20 conferences (awarded in 4). Despite my junior position, I lead several projects, and I have established new national and international collaborations to apply for funding as Co-PI. I have established a solid worldwide network of multidisciplinary researchers thanks to my mobility record and participation in international consortiums. I have gained mentoring skills through advanced courses and teaching experience at university, supervised undergraduate, MSc. and Ph.D. students, volunteered to organize scientific meetings, and I am involved in several disseminating activities. Finally, because of my expertise and research excellence, I am regularly invited to present my work at national and international centers and act as a reviewer in several well-known journals. All the above supports my outstanding record, especially considering that I completed my PhD less than 6 years ago.
