Bio
I am an enthusiastic person who loves challenges and always learns more. I love communicating with other people, and I am enthusiastic about my work.
I have a PhD in Food Science and Technology and Nutrition from the Portuguese Catholic University (ESB-UCP), University of Minho and University of Aveiro. My Bsc is in Biosciences with specialization in Microbiology at ESB- UCP, and in 2011, I completed my MSc in Biotechnology at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa with the subject “Cytogenetic effects in pathology anatomy laboratory workers exposed to formaldehyde”.
Currently, I am a researcher at CBQF-UCP, where I teach in the curricular units of biochemistry and quality management and control. Also, I am currently a vice-leader of the Smart Waste Portugal Young Professionals group.
Throughout my academic career I had the opportunity to develop strong skills in the laboratory practice and research, including functional ingredients and food, byproducts upgrading, separation and purification of bioresources, technical and instrumental analysis of chemical, biological, biochemical, immunological, functional genomics and bioinformatics and proteomics technology. I also gained a sense of responsibility, entrepreneurial attitude and dynamism. In addition, my experience as researcher was acquired by collaborations with CBQF- UCP, Department of Genetics (Faculty of Medical Sciences of the New University of Lisbon), Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Porto) and in accredited services at Department of Environmental Health (National Health Institute Dr. Ricardo Jorge). As result of theses collaborations I have co-authored more than 30 research papers, more than 20 as first author, and 20 of which are ranked in the 1st quartile and the remaining in the second quartile.
These professional experiences not only have deepened my knowledge about biotechnology, waste, biological monitoring, bioavailability, toxicology but also experience with several lab equipment including atomic Absorption Techniques, Flow Cytometry, Gas Chromatography, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, PC cluster. I also acquired knowledge of quality control and safety with the course in Quality Management System Laboratory Accreditation (NP EN ISO / IEC 17025:2005).
