Bio
Marta Casquero-Veiga obtained a B.Sc in Biology (2014) and a M.Sc. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine (2015) from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM, Spain). In 2021, she defended her PhD thesis entitled "Preclinical molecular neuroimaging in Deep Brain Stimulation" in the Biomedical Research PhD Program at the same university, for which she obtained the first position in the PhD Thesis Outstanding Award from UCM’s School of Medicine (2020-2021). She developed her PhD work in the Medical Imaging Laboratory of Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón (Madrid), thanks to a predoctoral grant from the Fundación Tatiana Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno (FTPGB). During her PhD, Casquero-Veiga’s research was focused on the study of preventive and therapeutic treatments, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) and pharmacological approaches, in animal models of schizophrenia and addiction by means of neuroimaging techniques (PET, CT, MRI). FTPGB supported her to perform a research stay in the Experimental Psychiatry group of Charité Universitätsmedizin (Berlin), to deepen her training in behavioral neuroscience in addiction models. In 2021, Marta joined Dr. Cortés-Canteli’s laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher, first at the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) and now at Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Fundación Jiménez Díaz (IIS-FJD). Her current work is focused on the evaluation of different neuroimaging biomarkers to in vivo detect the pro-coagulant state in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. Casquero-Veiga has participated in six research projects, authored eleven research articles, one review article, one book chapter and over fifty communications in national and international congresses (h-index=6). Therefore, her research career is focused on identifying neuroimaging biomarkers of neurological and psychiatric disorders with a translational perspective and a clear aim: “imaging” to heal.
