个人简介
I am an Assistant Professor at CIBERNED. I completed my Ph.D. in 2009 at Cajal Institute, CSIC-UAM, with a prestigious fellowship from the Spanish Government (FPI PhD student fellowship). My thesis topic was the role of insulin-like growth factor I in the blood-brain-barrier and AD. During this time, I received specialized training in primary culture of choroid plexus and neurons, and general molecular biology approaches both in vitro and in vivo. I was also trained in handling AD transgenic mice. I applied various treatments in vivo and several behavioral (memory) tests. I then moved to work at the Research Institute of the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid (2010–2012), where I focused on the detection of biomarkers in early-stage AD. It was at this time that I became very interested in neurogenesis in AD. By applying my knowledge of the choroid plexus, I developed several protocols to implant cells in vivo as a therapy to reduce the pathological features of AD. In 2012, I started to work at the Menzies Research Institute in Tasmania under the mentorship of Professor David Small. There I headed my own project, which addressed how amyloid precursor protein (APP) induces stem cell neurogenesis and the implications of this finding for AD. I obtained a solid grounding the culture, purification, and manipulation of neural stem cells. In 2015, I obtained the prestigious “Juan de la Cierva” postdoctoral fellowship from Spanish government to work at CBMSO-CSIC. During this time, I have driven my own projects and I have been co-supervising a PhD student. I have been focus on the microglia role in the progression of tauopathies such as AD. I applied state-of-the art methodology both in vitro (microglia and neuron primary cultures, cytokine arrays, ELISA, WB, qPCR, imaging, etc) and in vivo (transgenic mouse models handling, stereotaxically virus injections, treatments, etc) to study the spreading of Tau in neurodegenerative diseases and how microglia contribute with the pathology. Recently, I have published several papers that give me a strong background in the field of tauopathies-inflammation-neurodegeneration . These recent works related with this project are: Bolós M, et al. Direct Evidence of Internalization of Tau by Microglia in vitro and in vivo. J Alzheimers Dis. 50 (1).2015; Bolós M, et al. Alzheimer´s disease as an inflammatory disease. BioMolecular Concepts. 2017 Mar 1;8(1):37-43; Bolós M, et al. Absence of CX3CR1 impairs the internalization of Tau by microglia. Molecular neurodegeneration.2017. Aug 15;12(1):59 and Bolós M,et al. Absence of microglial CX3CR1 impairs the synaptic integration of adult-born hippocampal granule neurons. Brain Behav Immun. 2017. Oct.7; S0889-1591(17)30455-5.
