Bio
Professor Mark White is the lead academic for flight simulation activities at the University of Liverpool. He has 30 years of research experience including the last 20 years in flight simulation and modelling. His simulation fidelity research activities include collaboration and flight testing with the National Research Council of Canada. The research is developing new fidelity metrics for rotorcraft simulators and includes a CLeanSky2 project examining the simulation fidelity requirements for rotorcraft certification For the last 10 years he has been engaged with the helicopter ship flight simulation work at the University of Liverpool, collaborating with the Royal Netherlands Navy, DSTO, BAE Systems, dstl and Leonardo Helicopters. He also undertakes wake encounter research looking at safe separation distances for rotorcraft, wind turbine and aircraft wakes. He is a member of American Helicopter Society’s Modelling and Simulation Committee, the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Flight Simulation and Rotorcraft Specialist Groups (and is also a Fellow of RAeS) and the GARTEUR Helicopter Group of Responsables. He is contributing to two NATO AVT activities on helicopter ship launch and recovery operations and simulation fidelity.
