Bio
Mark D. Modell received the Master's degree in electrooptical engineering from the Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics, St. Peterburgh, Russia, in 1965, and completed his doctoral work in 1975, in optical and quantum-mechanical communication from the Engineering Communication Institute, St. Peterburgh.
He is currently a member of the scientific staff at the Biomedical Imaging and Spectroscopy Laboratory, BIDMC and Harvard Medical School. Also, he serves as a Consultant in medical imaging and applications of biomedical optics in a number of companies. In 1991, he cofounded MediSpectra, where he worked on the development of spectroscopy-based cancer diagnostics through 1998. From 1984 to 1990, he worked on the applications of laser radars, and prior to that, he was with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Optical Electronics Laboratory.
