Bio
Marissa Carter is President of Strategic Solutions, Inc. (SSI), a small business formed in 2000 that specializes in medical research. SSI’s mission is to help clients analyze and publish medical studies in peer-reviewed journals, design, monitor, and analyze clinical trials and interventions, conduct systematic reviews, and assist clients in developing original research, reviews, textbooks, and other reports, especially for approval by CMS, FDA, or other worldwide agencies. SSI also offers a complete suite of health economics, analytical, and modeling techniques for application to medical fields. In addition, SSI conducts research in many fields of medicine, by itself and in collaboration with many partners worldwide. This research includes wound care, evidence-based medicine, cost-effectiveness studies, and studies in ophthalmology, oncology, epidemiology, orthopedics, and pain.
Dr Carter has an extremely broad background in science, and has worked in many medical fields, as well as chemistry, biochemistry, virology, engineering, and materials science. She believes passionately in interdisciplinary research as the key to understanding medical problems, and brings to the table many different disciplines to help solve challenging issues. She is also a veteran businesswoman, and has worked for many large corporations, in research, pilot and industrial engineering, marketing and sales, and product development. Dr Carter also has considerable experience in TQM (total quality management), Six Sigma, ISO 9000, team management/facilitation, and project management. Her skills in past positions at various corporations resulting in the savings of millions of dollars, as well as sales in the $20-50 million range. In the specific field of wound care, Dr Carter has collaborated with many different corporations to advance knowledge in cost-effectiveness, evidence-based medicine, product safety, clinical practice guidelines, and efficacy of treatments.
Dr Carter holds a BA and MA in biochemistry from Oxford University and a PhD in chemistry from Brandeis University. She is the author or coauthor of over 130 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters in medicine and chemistry, and holds patents in the fields of homogeneous catalysis and plastics.
