个人简介
Marisa Marques got the BSc degree in Biochemistry in 2012 followed by the MSc degree in Biochemistry in 2013, both at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, Portugal. On her thesis project, entitled “Autophagy in cortical neurons: role of caloric restriction and neuropeptide Y”, Marisa developed important work to clarify the mechanisms underlying the anti-aging effects of caloric restriction, moreover, it allowed the identification of potential therapeutic targets for the aging and age-related diseases. In the same year, she received a research fellowship to work at Neuroendocrinology and Aging group, Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, in a project entitled “Pre-clinical study of depression in unpredictable chronic stress model”. In 2014, she got a FCT research fellowship to work at Cell Metabolism and Quality Control Group, Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, in the project entitled “Tackling Alzheimer’s Disease with a new peptide inhibitor of BACE1” and she is one of the inventors of an international patent application that is now pending in Portugal: “Peptide inhibitors of BACE1 for the treatment of neurological disorders” (International publication number: WO2017/095250 A1). In 2016, she was involved in a research project, supported by American Progeria Research Foundation that studied different therapeutic approaches to delay the aging process of normal and premature aging diseases, in particular Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, under Célia Aveleira and Cláudia Cavadas supervision at the Neuroendocrinology and Aging Group at Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra. Currently, Marisa is under a PhD fellowship supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) (Reference: SFRH/BD/120023/2016), entitled “Neuropeptide Y (NPY) system as a new target to delay aging” under the supervision of Cláudia Cavadas, Xavier Nissan and Célia Aveleira. She spent 5 months at the I-Stem Institute - Institute for Stem Cell Therapy and Exploration of Monogenic Diseases, France, to developed complementary studies for her PhD project. Marisa Ferreira-Marques was also involved in the laboratory supervision of several laboratory rotations and master’s students and participated in various activities regarding science communication. So far Marisa is the first author of a scientific article in international peer-reviewed journal, and co-author of 3 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
