Bio
In 1990, Dr Díaz completed his doctorate at the University of La Laguna and moved to the Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetic Research in Cambridge where he studied mechanistic properties of different anion and cation channels. His research led to the functional association between volume-activated chloride channels and multidrug resistance P-glycoprotein (MDR). He returned to La Laguna in 1994, where he established the Laboratory of Membrane Physiology and Biophysics to study different ion conductance, electrolyte and nutrient transporters, plasmalemmal ATPases and membrane receptors for neurotransmitters and hormones. Lately, he has focused on the analysis of lipid rafts microdomains from nerve cells and their relation to neurodegenerative diseases. He became a full professor of Animal Physiology in 2010. Currently he is the director of the Lipidomic Analyses Service and the Specialty Chief Editor of Frontiers in Membrane Physiology and Biophysics.
