One line of work is related to the development and validation of molecular diagnostic techniques to identify mutations and haplotypes associated with decreased fertility and losses reproduction in bovines of Holando breed. DNA based techniques were used to identify bovine carriers of diferent mutations like SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphsims), deletions. We also adjust and validate new molecular tools to monitor bovine water sources and prevent possible cattle intoxications due to cyanotoxins. We used DNA-based methods such as qPCR and 16S rRNA gene sequencing to assess cyanobacterial diversity in water and sediment of an uruguayan hydroelectrical reservoir near sites with differente land use: forestry, agriculture and livestock production. The aim of this work is to identify different cyanobacterial species, analyze diversity and population dynamics near sites with different land uses: forestry, agriculture and livestok production, in order to asses water quality in the uruguayan reservoir Rincón del Bonete. Those studies are part of INIA's Natural Resources, Production and Environment Program.
