Maria Isabel Navarro Mendoza

My passion for studying life through genetics started when I was a Biology undergraduate student, so I applied at the Fungal Genomics and Molecular Biotechnology laboratory at the University of Murcia in 2011. Since then, I’ve been learning with Mucor about life sciences and molecular genetics, focusing on RNAi and pathogenesis during my Bachelor and Master’s degree. Now, my Ph.D. project aims the identification of new virulence factors in mucormycosis, an emergent and lethal infection caused by Mucorales. My thesis starts with the development of an RNAi-based tool for functional genomics to identify genes involved in pathogenesis and in multiple biological processes in Mucor circinelloides.
