M. Carmen Martínez Tomás is graduated in Physics and PhD in Physics by the University of Valencia (UVEG). She began his research in the field of semiconductors with potential application in solar cell technology at the ‘Centre Electronic de Montpellier, Université de Sciences et Techniques du Languedoc’. In the frame of different collaborations she enlarged her scientific training in some CNRS French laboratories such as the ‘Group d’Etude de la Matiere Condensee’ (GEMAC) in Meudon and the ‘Centre de Recherche sur l'Hétéro-Epitaxie et ses Applications’ (CRHEA) in Nice. She joined the academic staff of the Applied Physics Department at the University of Valencia in the year 1978 as Assistant Professor, in 1987 as “Professor Titular de Universidad” and in the year 2016 as “Catedrática de Universidad”. As a researcher she has been manly involved in the field of characterization of semiconductor materials with potential applications in the field of solar cells and detectors. Her initial scientific interest in Spain was the photoluminescent and electrical characterization of InSe, studying the acceptor levels. Next, she centered on the characterization of some electronic devices as Au/InP Schottky diodes and InP n+/p photodiodes in France. Thereafter, as a permanent professor in Spain, first she was dedicated to the numerical simulation of heat transfer during the growth process of semiconductor materials by different methods. The materials on which the calculations have been developed were CdTe, HgTe and ZnO, grown by several techniques as Bridgmann, Travelling Heater Method (THM) and Metalorganic Chemical Deposition (MOCVD). Next, she was involved in the study of structural and morphological properties of semiconductor materials by high resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD). She dedicated mainly to the determination of crystalline quality and lattice deformation through different types of measurements, as rocking curves and reciprocal space maps (RSM), although x-ray multiple diffraction (XRMD) has been also a matter of interest. Now HRXRD is her current line of work as expertise, centered in ZnO, CdO, MgO and related alloys.
She has participated in more than 30 research projects, one of them under her direction. In the last 10 years she has directed one PhD. She has 4 research terms (sexenios), is co-author of more than 70 publications in scientific journals and more than 70 contributions to scientific conferences.
