个人简介
I am a medical doctor and research scientist with advanced academic qualifications and extensive experience in research design and implementation, and evaluation within early childhood development (ECD). I hold a medical degree from Makerere University Kampala, and a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Lancaster University UK. I have over 15 years’ research experience leading and collaborating on ECD work in Uganda, Kenya and other low income countries. My research has primarily focused on the impact of disease and adverse social exposures on childhood development but also extends to maternal health and how this influences child wellbeing. I have applied various research designs to my work, from simple cross-sectional studies to more complex designs including longitudinal/cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials, and mixed methods blending quantitative and qualitative techniques and using appropriate data analysis techniques. I have generated several outputs including 52 peer reviewed publications, 21 conference papers, psychometric measures, datasets, policy briefs, blogs, press articles and media appearances, contributing to knowledge advancement and policy improvements. I am particularly proud of the CoP childcare model for improving the quality of informal daycare.
I am currently based at the African Population and Research Center Nairobi, where I am currently championing the integration of ECD monitoring and services into the mainstream health care system working with government and non-government stakeholders. I previously worked at the Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Unit & London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Entebbe, where I rapidly advanced my career emerging as one of the very few clinical developmental psychologists in East Africa. I have strong leadership skills acquired through training (AREF and MUII Fellowships) and experience. I have won several distinctions, promotions, prestigious awards, grants and have achieved international visibility through research and professional contributions including editorial roles, mentorship and technical working groups. My dream is to see that children in Africa not only survive but also thrive and achieve their developmental potential and succeed in life.
