Bio
Marco Di Giovannantonio received his Ph.D. in Physics in 2015 from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (Italy) for the study of surface-confined polymerization reactions in ultrahigh vacuum and at solid-liquid interfaces, exploiting different chemical pathways (Ullmann and Schiff-base couplings). After one year post-doctoral research fellowship at CNR - ISM (Italian National Research Council - Institute of Structure of Matter) in Rome, in 2016 he joined the nanotech@surfaces Laboratory at EMPA (Switzerland) as postdoctoral fellow, and then scientist, where he remained until June 2020. Since July 2020, Marco Di Giovannantonio is Reserach Scientist (permanent staff) at the CNR - ISM.
Marco Di Giovannantonio has a strong background in experimental physics with special focus to the study of surface-confined chemical reactions. His technical skills cover the main investigation techniques related to the surface science and the UHV technology, ranging from scanning probe microscopies and spectroscopies (STM/STS, nc-AFM), to photoelectron (XPS/UPS) and absorption (NEXAFS) spectroscopies, and electron diffraction (LEED). He has performed experiments in several synchrotron radiation facilities in Europe, being in many cases the responsible of the beamtime. His research is mainly devoted to the study of on-surface reactions for the synthesis of novel carbon-based nanostructures, with special focus on the microscopic processes leading to specific nanostructures.
