个人简介
As a musician, composer and music lover from an early age I remember listening to music because my grandfather Luís Pinheiro was a Portuguese guitar master. As I grew up several questions emerged including what music is and how auditory perception is processed. The Technological Physics Engineering course allowed me to reconcile and study this interdisciplinary fusion of two worlds: Music and Physics, in particular the area of musical neuroscience. My master's thesis made it possible to brain mapping the effect of some auditory stimuli (among others monaural and binaural beats) and some musical excerpts on human brainwaves. Using the data collected in my master's thesis, the article «Brain Mapping of EEG Changes with Aural Stimulation» (as first author with contributions: conceptualization; participant recruitment & data collection; methodology; software; formal analysis; investigation; data curation; writing - draft original, revision & editing; visualization) is in the process of being submitted for publication in an international journal of neuroimaging. In co-authorship, the articles were published in International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health: «Repeatability of Brain Activity as Measured by a 32-Channel EEG System during Resistance Exercise in Healthy Young Adults» (January 2023, with contributions: methodology; software; validation; formal analysis; writing - original draft; visualization), «The Influence of Noise in the Neurofeedback Training Sessions in Student Athletes» (December 2021, with contributions: methodology; software; validation; formal analysis; investigation; data curation; writing - original draft, revision & editing; visualization). Still using the data collected in my master's thesis it is intended to publish the articles «Functional Brain Connectivity of EEG Changes with Aural Stimulation» and «Neuro-Social Mapping of EEG Changes with Aural Stimulation». Some collaborative research projects: BraiNSy (sonification of EEG signals recorded during sleep, which until now made possible the recording of the CD album «SOMNATIKA», April 2021, chiptune EEG-based sonification recorded during sleep, https://mpex.bandcamp.com/album/somnatika), McGEA (musical composition using evolutionary genetic algorithms) which features the song «The Survivor» released on the CD compilation «Sound Research», 2007, http://enoughrecords.scene.org/release/enrcmp05) and PolyBRAIN (real-time polyphonic sonification of human brainwaves: study on functionality and viability of a brain-MIDI controller using a portable headset EEG as brain-computer interface). I participated in several events as a speaker/ performer (TEDxIST 2013, TEDxOporto 2015, PiGo 2016, PiGo 2019). As a musician and composer (artistic name «M-PeX»), the Portuguese guitar represents the hallmark of my musical identity, merging their sound with diverse soundscapes, including electronic music. My creations aim to modernize and globalize this traditional instrument from portuguese culture, culminating in a bold and innovative musical confluence. In the artistic residency PRALAC (LAC's Project of Artistic Residencies) since 2021, my latest album «CYNETIK-1» (February 2023, https://mpex.bandcamp.com/album/cynetik-1) - the 14th solo original album since the 2007 release of «PHADO» - was released in this context and explores the ambient electronica that incorporates the sound of the Portuguese guitar with programmed sounds, field recordings and cinematic soundscapes captured in the village of Burgau (in the Barlavento Algarvio). In addition to the live performances I am also dedicated to the composition and production of original soundtracks (e.g. CD «Viver e Sentir Portugal» for portuguese guide), licensing (e.g. Oceanário de Lisboa), sound design (e.g. gastronomic sound experience «A Saudade Portuguesa»), audio editing, production and post-production for cinema (e.g. film «Rosinha e Outros Bichos do Mato»), theater plays (e.g. theater play «O cultivo de flores de plástico»), television (e.g. soap opera «Rosa Fogo»), advertising spots (e.g. «Turismo de Portugal»), web, radio and also studio recording, mixing and mastering. The TV interview «Outras Histórias: Frequência M-PeX» (RTP, 2019) - https://youtu.be/O95h1VWL1zo - expresses and illustrates my path as a musician and as a researcher. In it I reaffirm my will, motivation, commitment, and passion for sound-musical, computational, physical and neuroscientific exploration.
