个人简介
Marcelo Azevedo Neves was born in 1969, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and achieved permanent position as Professor at the UFRRJ (Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in 2006 after being approved in its National Public Tender in the Area of "Condensed Matter Physics: Experimental". Nowadays he has grade of Associate Professor, level D/4, working in the Physics Department (DEFIS) of the Institute of Exact Sciences (ICE) at UFRRJ. He founded and currently leads the Research Group on Energy and Complex Systems (GPESC) at UFRRJ and since 2006 he is the Science Coordinator of the LMDS (Laboratory of Materials and Devices with Superconductors) of DEFIS-ICE-UFRRJ. He also coordinated some teaching DEFIS-ICE Laboratories: Structure of Matter Laboratory, Optics and Modern Physics Laboratory, Electricity & Magnetism Laboratory. Since March, 2020, he is at Post-doctorate / sabbatical year at ICMAB (Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona, Spain), on Superconductivity Physics & Engineering.
His research interests are:
1. Energy & Complex Systems, currently with an emphasis on Clean Energy using Superconducting Materials and Devices, and Renewable Sources, as well Characterization of Biological Materials for use as Food;
2. Scientific Instrumentation & Metrology;
3. Instrumentation for Physics Teaching.
Before achieving the permanent position as Professor at UFRRJ, Marcelo Azevedo Neves had a post-doctor position (with Brazil's CNPQ RD Fellowship) on Electrical Engineering / Superconducting Materials and Devices at Department of Electrotechnics/Polytechnic School of UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) , with internships abroad (with Brazil´'s CNPq RAHE Fellowships) at ICMAB (Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona, Spain) and TcSUH (Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston, USA ), from 2001 to 2003. He was also Substitute Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at the Institute of Physics Armando Dias Tavares of UERJ (University of the State of Rio de Janeiro), Substitute Professor at DEFIS-ICE -UFRRJ, and after that a Visiting Professor in the Department of Mechanics & Energy of the Faculty of Technology of UERJ, Brazil.
As a Professor and researcher at UFRRJ he was one of the authors and Coordinator of R&D Projects: "LiMS Project - Current Limiter with Superconducting Material" (in Cooperation Term of UFRRJ with Thermoelectric Power Plant Barbosa Lima Sobrinho / PETROBRAS) and "SUPERCABO Project - Development of High Temperature Superconducting Cable Technology for Electric Power Systems" (for four years, under a Cooperation Agreement between UFRRJ, and the Brazilian Power Utilities CEMIG, TAESA, TBE and CTEEP, as part of a Public Call of National Strategic Project from the Brazilian National Energy Agency (ANEEL) .
He was also one of the researchers on the Project "Basic and Applied Research in Alternative Materials: superconductors and magnetocalorics" (Public call "PENSA RIO - FAPERJ 2009" from the Foundation of Research Support of the Sate of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), which was developed by many research centers and universities at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He was also author of two Educational Projects for UFRRJ: one for the "Tutorial Education Program" (PET-Physics, in 2006) and the original proposal for the "Institutional Program for Initiation to Teaching / Physics" (PIBID/Physics, in 2009).
He designed and coordinated the expansion (from 2011 to 2014) of the infrastructure of LMDS - Laboratory of Materials and Superconducting Devices of DEFIS-ICE-UFRRJ, concluded with a new building (600 m²) and upgrades and updates in equipment.
He is the author of two books (in Portuguese) "Introduction to superconducting materials and their use in power cables" ("Introdução aos materiais supercondutores e seu uso em cabos de energia", ISBN 978-85-911808-0-6) and "Principles of Metrology for Laboratories" ("Princípios de Metrologia para Laboratórios", ISBN 978-85-916881-0-4). Beyond the papers presented in this ORCID file, he also has more than 60 works in Scientific Meetings and Congresses (mainly on the Applied Superconductivity Conferences, the European Conferences on Applied Superconductivity and the Brazilian Meetings on Condensed Matter Physics).
He co-supervised 4 Doctoral Theses and 6 Dissertations Masters. For Undergraduate level he supervised 20 Scientific Initiation Students, 17 students at the "Tutorial Education Program - PET" at UFRRJ, and 10 Undergraduate Conclusion Monographs (9 in Physics and 1 in Electrical Engineering).
He is author of a patent application (BR 10 2013 030945 1) as part of SUPERCABO Project.
He also was part of 11 Examination Boards for Higher Education Professor Position, presiding over 4 of them.
