Bio
Marcelo M. F. Saba is a Professor at INPE, National Institute for Space Research, in Brazil. He has been using high-speed cameras and auxiliary sensors to understand the physics of lightning since 2003. Since the first lightning flash recorded with a thousand images per second he has published tens of papers in refereed journals and is now recording them with hundreds of thousands images per second in collaboration with researchers in USA, Austria and South Africa.
He conducts research on the physics of lightning, lightning imaging and detection, and other topics in atmospheric electricity. He is author of over 60 scientific papers in refereed journals and over 200 papers in conference proceedings. He is studying upward flashes characteristics, downward lightning connection to ground structures and the relation between lightning and high energy radiation.
