Bio
Prof. Marcelo G. de Oliveira received his Ph.D. in Science from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo state, Brazil in 1992 where he was appointed Assistant Professor in 1987. After his doctoral studies, he served as Visiting Research Fellow at the Chemistry Department of the University of Southampton, UK, from 1993 to 1995. He was appointed Associate Professor in the Physical Chemistry Department of the Institute of Chemistry of UNICAMP in 2000 and Full Professor in 2014. His research work is aimed at the preparation of polymeric biomaterials for the controlled release of nitric oxide (NO) in biomedical applications. More recently, he has included 3D printing techniques for the manufacture of implantable and absorbable, NO-releasing medical devices. He has authored 85 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 14 patents filed in Brazil and other countries; several of them have been licensed to pharmaceutical companies. He is a reviewer of 33 scientific journals on chemical, medical and pharmaceutical research, has supervised 10 doctorate and 17 master theses, 28 undergraduate research trainee students and 9 Post-docs.
