Bio
Marc A. Maes has over 30 years of expertise in the areas of quantitative risk analysis, reliability-based design, and stochastic modeling. His activities have included fundamental research and development, as well as specialized consulting to industry. His work is marked by the development of dedicated probabilistic models/techniques in civil, mechanical, and environmental engineering, the application of both statistical as well as model-based reliability analysis, and the optimization of risk acceptance and risk mitigation strategies. Industrial applications of his work are invariably related to engineering systems marked by a significant need to manage, assess, and/or minimize risks.
Risk and reliability work has focused mostly on energy-producing systems, offshore installations, arctic engineering, deep-ocean systems, oil-and-gas activities, drilling operations, stochastic modeling of environmental risks, transportation of hazardous materials, pipeline design and inspection, foundation engineering, environmental hazards, and the probabilistics of robustness and resilience associated with complex engineering systems.
