个人简介
Mahmoud E. Awad, is a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher of Applied Mineralogy (Geomaterial Science and Technology) at the Geology Department, Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.
Awad graduated B.Sc. degree (2005) Geochemistry, received his M.Sc. Geochemistry degree (2012) then a Ph.D. Geochemistry (2018) from Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University in Cairo. After that, he received an international Ph.D. degree (Pharmaceutical Technology) from Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Granada, Spain.
His Ph.D. research was funded by the Egyptian and Spanish governments (Egyptian cultural affairs and mission sector) and also supported by the European commission (the Spanish Project CGL2016-80833-R, the Andalusian Government project RNM1897, the MINECO project FIS2016-77692-C2-2P, the Project UNGR15-CE-3531 from the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Spain). For accomplishing his planned Ph.D. proposal successfully, he joined the Spanish research group (CTS-946) PI: Professor César Viseras Iborra as supervisor and Professor Alberto López-Galindo as co-supervisor in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Claro Ignacio Sainz-Diaz´s group since 2015. This group is the main founder of the new trend “Pharmaceutical development of mineral resources” in Europe since 2004.
Inside this active and excellent group, Awad performed his doctoral project efficiently in the laboratories of the Andalusian Institute of Earth Sciences IACT (Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research, CSIC) and the laboratories of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Granada, Spain. Besides, Awad appointed from the UGR council to implement an Erasmus+ KA1 mobility program in the group of Prof. Dr. Svetlana Ibrić at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade, Republic of Serbia in the period from March to July 2017.
Research activities and interests
Awad´s research area lies on the boundaries between applied mineralogy, geochemistry of mineral deposits, mineral technology and pharmaceutical technology. Hence, his work deals with topics related to exploring the natural geochemical characteristics and mineralogical properties that affecting and controlling the activity, quality, functionality and development of clay and non-clay mineral deposits in many different applications (industrial, medicinal and environmental applications of minerals).
In his postdoctoral research interests, Awad is focusing on discovering new modification mechanisms with advanced surface and structural properties of some novel clay minerals-based derivatives from geochemical and applied mineralogical viewpoints. Hence, the contribution of novel findings in the technological development of the geomaterial activity by the chemical and physical treatment methods, design, formulation and fabrication of green cost-effective and efficient nano-agents in sustainable environmental technology (e.g., catalytic CO2 recovery, waste management, etc), pharmaceutical technology (novel excipients and active ingredients: such as novel antiviral mask-composing nanomaterial), biomedical engineering (e.g., artificial teeth and bones, biodevices, etc), agrochemical technology (e.g., novel nanofertilizers and pesticides, agro-soil treatment materials, etc), geotechnology (e.g., soil mechanics treatment materials, etc), and other industrial ceramic-based novel products (e.g., 3D printing ink-materials, novel construction and building materials).
Based on the experience that he acquired, Awad is capable of performing clay physical and chemical treatments, design and formulation of hybrid clay-based materials using additives and their microtextural/microstructural characterizations (using XRD/XRF diffractometry, ICP-OES, FT-IR spectroscopy and VNIR/SWIR hyperspectral analyses, SEM and HR-TEM microscopy, BET-surface area, BJH- porosimetry, surface charge by ZetaSizer, particle size analysis by laser diffractometry granulometry, thermal characteristics using TGA and DSC analyses, CIE-Lab Spectrocolorimetry), as well as functionality testing using suitable approaches that based on the targeted and effective applied technological properties.
