Bio
Since 2013, I serve as the permanent secretariat of the university ethical committee of USTTB. In 2019, I was elected as member of the Malian national ethical Committee of life and health sciences. I am the vice-rector of USTTB since October 2019.
In 2006, I earned a D.Phil in genomic epidemiology from Oxford University, UK, before moving to a post-doctoral research position within Malaria Genomic Epidemiology Network (MalariaGEN), led by Prof. Kwiatkowski, Oxford University, where I worked on statistical methodologies, ethical aspect of genomic research in Africa, and genomic study design to support West and Central African (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, and Senegal) Junior data fellows. I have a broad background in immunology and in genomics with specific training and expertise. As Senior researcher at the Mali International Center for Excellence in Research (ICER-Mali) at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Bamako, I carried out genomic epidemiology and complex immunogenetics data analysis on malaria, and other infectious diseases as well as innate and acquired immune response to malaria in Malian population. As PI or co-Investigator on several previous ICER-Mali - and NIH- and other-funded grants, I laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing effective measures of infectious diseases patterns, and by establishing strong ties with local community that made possible to recruit and track genomic data over time at the international ethical standard.
To date, I have trained over 40 graduate or postgraduate research students (PhD, Masters, MD, and PharmD); I have over 150 publications. I play a critical role in conducting large clinical and epidemiological, and genomic studies whose goal is to define the best strategies for controlling infectious diseases in Mali.
I am currently the Secretary Principal of the Faculty of Medicine and Odontostomatology, University of Bamako and the Permanent Secretary of the Ethical Committee.
Since taking up a Readership at the University of Bamako in 2008, I have established analysis pipelines to process whole genome Pf data, and continue to provide statistical and epidemiology support and training to African scientists, as well as to pathogen research groups at the MRTC. My research group focuses in part on the analysis of whole Pf genomes, and developing genomic research in Mali. In addition, I am co-leading the analysis on the Artemisinin Resistance Project Kenieroba, Mali, which uses genotype and sequence data to identify loci involved in the resistance to new front-line antimalarial drugs.
