Michaël Sicard

Michaël Sicard (BE’95, PhD’00) is holding an ERA (European Research Area) Chair position at the Laboratoire de l’Atmosphère et des Cylones (LACy) at the University of La Reunion, France, in the framework of the European project REALISTIC (GA 101086690). He is currently on sabbatical leave from his former Professor position at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. His main research interests are threefold: (i) on a technical point of view, the development of lidar techniques and instruments in all their aspects for aerosol observations, the characterization (ii) of aerosol optical/microphysical/radiative properties thanks to data fusion (in-situ, remote sensing, satellite) and modeling, and (iii) of their impact on the Earth-atmosphere radiative budget. He is currently working especially on aerosols of biomass burning and volcanic origins: their 3D dispersion in the southern hemisphere and the processes involving aerosols, water vapor and ozone at both tropospheric and stratospheric levels. He has published nearly 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals which received 2819 citations (according to Scopus, h-index=32, March 2023), and made more than 140 international conference presentations/posters.
