Bio
Mina S. Sedrak, M.D., M.S., is an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology Therapeutics Research. He is a clinically trained medical oncologist specializing in the care of older adults with breast cancer. The mission of his research program is to improve the health and well-being of older patients with breast cancer. His research interests and ongoing projects include identifying clinical and biological factors that predict the risk of chemotherapy toxicity in older women with early-stage breast cancer, investigating alternate treatment regimen for frail older patients, and improving cancer clinical trial participation of older adults. His training and experience includes analysis of large secondary databases, survey development and qualitative methods, and design of therapeutic clinical trials for older and/or frail adults with cancer, capturing endpoints that are pertinent to this population such as preservation of function, cognition and independence.
Dr. Sedrak is the recipient of several intramural and extramural grants, including an NIH/NCI K12 career development award and NIA GEMSSTAR R03 award, that support his work at the interface of breast cancer and aging. He serves as co-chair of the Junior Faculty Advisory Board of the “Cancer and Aging Research Infrastructure Grant” (R21/R33 AG059206), co-chair of the Junior Cancer and Aging Research Group, and co-chair of the Breast Cancer Working Group in the Alliance Cancer in the Older Adult Committee. Additionally, Dr. Sedrak serves on the National Cancer Institute’s Diversifying Accrual Working Group, bringing expertise as a geriatric oncology researcher and informing methods of improving the accrual of older adults with cancer. He is also an appointed member of the ASCO Scientific Program Committee and serves on the Cancer.Net Editorial Board’s geriatric oncology advisory panel.
Dr. Sedrak earned his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from University of Chicago. He received his medical doctorate from Rush Medical College, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also received a Master of Science in Health Policy Research.
