Bio
Dr. M. Sebrena Jackson, LICSW is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Educational Programs and Student Services at The University of Alabama School of Social Work. Her research, scholarship, and practice focus on two lines of education research: post-secondary education access and success for youth in and aged out of foster care and online social work education. She has published manuscripts and presented on these topics at state, national and international conferences. The pre-college program she founded, the National Social Work Enrichment Program (NSEP), has received consistent funding for over 10 years from Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR). Dr. Jackson has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Social Worker of the Year in Georgia (2009) and Alabama (2017), the University of Alabama’s Innovation Scholar Award and selection as a participant in the Online Learning Consortium’s Institute for Emerging Leaders in Online Learning (IELOL). She obtained her BSW from Tuskegee University and her MSW and PhD from Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Jackson is a trailblazer in the social work profession, and through her leadership, practice, and research, a college education has become a viable option for hundreds of youth transitioning from foster care.
