Bio
Mohamed E. Sawan received the B.S. degree in nuclear engineering from Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt, in 1967, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Nuclear Engineering, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, in 1973.
He spent seven years teaching nuclear engineering courses and supervising M.S. and Ph.D. students with the Department of Nuclear Engineering, University of Alexandria. In 1980, he joined the Fusion Technology Institute, University of Wisconsin-Madison, as a Senior Scientist. He is currently a Distinguished Professor and Associate Director with the Fusion Technology Institute, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the author of 380 published papers and reports in nuclear engineering subjects. He accumulated more than 30 years of experience in the design and analysis of fusion reactor systems with broad experience in performing neutronics, shielding, activation, and safety analyses for both magnetic and inertial confinement fusion systems.
Dr. Sawan is a member of the American Nuclear Society and was elected in April 2000 to the rank of Fellow. He was the recipient of numerous awards including a certificate of merit in recognition of outstanding leadership and performance in ITER design in 1998 and the University of Wisconsin Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research in 1994.
