Bio
Born in Barcelona in 1983. Biotechnology (2001-2004) and Biochemistry (2004-2005) degrees (Autonomous University of Barcelona). During my university years I began to be interested in all water related issues. I had the chance to participate in research projects at the University of Kuopio, Finland (Erasmus grant) and at the University of Padova, Italy (Leonardo grant). Back in Barcelona, I worked at the Barcelona's sewerage system company (Agbar Group) while studying a master in water management (2009) (University of Barcelona).
Phd in environmental microbiology and biotechnology 2010-2014. During the PhD I been involved in several research projects focused on the development of fecal source tracking tools and the evaluation of virus dissemination in the environment, with special mention to Viroclime (2010-2013): "Impact of climate change on the transport, fate and risk management of viral pathogens in water" (FW7). I did a research stay at the Environmental Science Research centre in Christchurch NewZealand (2013) and two inter-university cooperation projects, together with Intermón Oxfam (Haití 2011) and the Spanish development and cooperation agency (AECID) (Guatemala 2012), focused on water microbiology and public health. Post-doc researcher (2015-2019) of the project Metawater (JPI) focused on developing different metagenomic methodologies (NGS and target enrichment assays) to identify and control emergent microbial contaminants in irrigation water. She has been and adjunct lecturer of the Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics department of the UB from 2014 to 2019 and 2021 to date, teaching at students of the Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, and Biomedicine degrees and at students of the master's degree in Advanced Microbiology.
Postdoctoral researcher at the IDAEA-CSIC (2020 and 2021), working with metagenomics and molecular based tools to identify viral contaminants in groundwater, air and soil within a circular economy of water (projects Urbanwat (JPI) and Unbiased (MICIN)). Since 2022, postdoctoral researcher at the UB, working with targeted enrichment massive sequencing, water passive sampling methods and occupational risk assessment in the context of VIRWASTE (Pandemies) and EPISARS (Marató Tv3) projects. In the last years, she has been developing concentration and detection methods of the viral RNA in wastewater under a Wastewater Based Epidemiology (WBE) approach. She is a part of the Catalan Surveillance Network of SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater and member of the Water research institut (IdRA).
