Bio
I am an experimental condensed matter physicist. Over the years, I have studied electrical transport and magnetic properties of a variety of materials, mostly at low temperatures. I am currently interested in three areas: the transition from insulating to conducting behavior in semiconductors, as well as the behavior of "bad" metals on one side of the transition and "bad" insulators on the other; a newly discovered metal-insulator transition in the two-dimensional system of electrons in silicon MOSFETs (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors) (no such transition is thought to be possible in two dimensions); and quantum-mechanical effects in crystalline high-spin molecular magnets; these materials consist of a large number of identical magnetic molecules and have potential applications for memory storage and quantum computation.
