Mª Paz Fernández-García received her B. Sci. degree and her PhD in Physics from the University of Oviedo in 2005 and 2010, respectively, being Prof. Jesús Angel Blanco and Prof Pedro Gorría her PhD Advisors'. She completed a 5-year postdoc in the research group of Prof. Joao Pedro Araújo at the Instituto de Física de Materiais Avançados, Nanotecnología e Fotónica (IFIMUP, Porto, Portugal). Additionaly, she has been a visiting researcher at Instituto Nacional del Carbon (CSIC, Spain); Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Aragón (ICMA, Zaragoza, Spain); Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INA, Zaragoza, Spain); Departamento de Ciencia de la Tierra y de la Materia Condensada (CITIMAC, Santander, Spain); International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL, Braga, Portugal); Rede de Química e Tecnología (REQUIMTE, Porto, Portugal) and, Institute des Molécules et Materiaux du Mans (IMMM, CNRS, Le Mans, France). Besides, she is a regular long-term user of the Elettra Sincrotrone (Trieste, Italy).
Since 2016 she holds an assistant professor position at the Department of Physics of the University of Oviedo and has taught more than 1300 h (240h/year) of 12 different subjects (from 4 undergraduate degrees and 3 MSci). She has completed a program of more than 160 hours that deals with new technologies, innovation and improvement of the teaching activity given out by the "Instituto de Innovación Educativa" of the Univ. of Oviedo. She has been awarded with innovation projects in 2018, 2019 and 2021. She has supervised 8 MSci thesis (+1 ongoing), 6 Final Degree projects (+1 ongoing) and is currently co-supervising 2 PhD students. Finally, since 2021 she is in charge of several Bilateral Erasmus agreements at the Faculty of Science of the University of Oviedo.
Her areas of scientific activity are Nanotechnology, Magnetism and Materials Science including metallic and ferrite magnetic nanoparticles, magnetic high-aspect ratio nanoparticles for photocatalytic applications and, spintronics. Her actual interests are focused on the synthesis, functionalization and physico-chemical characterization of superparamagnetic nanomaterials for bio-application and bio-sensing. She is member of the group “Nanomateriales para Biomedicina y Energía” (NanoBien) leaded by Prof. Jesús A. Blanco and Prof. Pedro Gorría and the node “Magnes” (Nanomateriales magnéticos para energía y Salud” part of NanoBioap - cluster of Excellence, leaded by Prof. Montserrat Rivas.
She has been IP of one local project (Ref: 2018/00061/008, competitive call PAPI-18-EMERG-8). Besides, she has been team member of 4 national, 5 international and 2 regional research projects. She has been member of the local organizing committee of international conferences ISMANAM-2011 and ICFPM-2019. In the last one, she has also been Chair of the Awards Committee and organizer of the “Inspiring Women in Science” event. Recently, she has been enrolled in FeSTEM - a European Erasmus+ KA2 project- and also Inspira STEAM project (Univ of Deusto, Spain) both devoted to female empowerment in STEM studies.
She has co-authored 1 book chapter, 23 articles (16 published at T1 and 7 at T2) in scientific journals that are gathered in JCR (583 citations, h-index =11 in GoogleScholar). She has personally delivered 2 invited talks and 16 oral communications.
