个人简介
Masaaki Niwa (Fellow, IEEE) received the B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from Kanazawa University, Kanazawa, Japan, in 1978 and 1980, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in applied physics from Osaka University, Suita, Japan, in 1994.
In 1980, he joined Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Current Panasonic Corp.) where he was engaged in science and technology of the gate-stack of advanced CMOSFETs focusing on surface/interface control and reliability physics of the ultra-thin gate dielectrics including high-k/metal gate system as well as mechanism clarification of initial oxidation of the Si(001) surface. He was a Visiting Professor at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, from 2005 to 2006. In 2013, he moved to CIES, Tohoku University, as a Professor, where he is engaged in collaborative research on industry-university collaboration including magnetic tunneling junction for STT-MRAM focusing on the interface analysis of ultra-thin MgO.
Dr. Niwa is a fellow of the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP). He has been serving as several executive committees including the General Chair of symposium on VLSI Technology, the Asian Arrangement Chair of IEDM, and the Dielectric Committee Chair of IRPS.
