Career Trajectory
Bio
Clemente Aguilar Garduño
Biologist from the Faculty of Sciences, UNAM. Master in Health Sciences - Epidemiology (1998-2001), Mexican School of Public Health (ESPM), INSP. To undertake this master. To develop project master's thesis, I won one of the 5 available fellowships which, in 1999, the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) awarded, at the regional level of Latin American countries. The National Institutes for Health (NIH) of Mexico, recognized me as an Associated Researcher B.
I worked as lecturer in several master's programs at the ESPM. I won a one-year research specialization scholarship to work at the Department of Public Health, History of Medicine and Gynecology, Miguel Hernández University (UMH), in Valencia, Spain (07/2003-07/2004). At the same time, I started my PhD studies on preventive medicine and public health. I also finished the academic sufficiency (Exp. 9704) in July 2004, and the research proficiency and received the Diploma of Advanced Studies in October 2005. (DEA). In 2007 I transferred my doctorate file to the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Granada (UGR), and I won a one-year fellowship to undertake research specialization, in the Department of Medical Research Support, in the Medicine Faculty, University of Granada (07/2006-07/2007). Additionally, in 2007 I won a one-year mobility fellowship on the "One-to-one mentorship" program, from the Karolinska Institute. I finished my doctorate in July 2010 with the highest mark of “Outstanding Cum Laude".
From 2007-2009 I was hired as technician at the CIBER for Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP) to work at the Human Biomonitoring project of Spain. Shortly afterwards I was hired as an advisor for the Director of the Andalusian Environmental Health Observatory (OSMAN), I won another contract with CIBERESP (2012), to work at the Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research (FISABIO) in Valencia. Furthermore, in 2012, I won a "Sara Borrell" Postdoctoral Contract, (obtaining 9th position at the Spanish country level), to work in the European project “DENAMIC”, titled: "Exposure to organophosphate (OP) pesticides and their effects on methylation of placental genes, and their impacts on Children’s neuropsychological development”, at the Valencia birth cohort of the INMA "INfancia y Medio Ambiente". I carried out a postdoctoral specialization in bioinformatics in the area of Genetics, Department of Medicine Preventive ICHAN, Mount Sinai Hospital, School of Medicine, University of New York, EE UU (07/2014-01/2015). In 2016 I returned to Granada to work as a research technician at the Center "Euristikos" Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, UGR. In 2017, I was contracted at the Alejandro Otero Foundation (FIBAO) to work in the GENEIDA Birth Cohort project, which I had been involved in from the planning stages, as we obtained financial support in a competitive call for Excellence Projects.
In 2019 I was hired as a technician to manage the Databases of the GENEIDA Project at the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP). I also worked on two additional human biomonitoring projects, one at the Andalusian Region level, and the other at the European Community level.
During my post doctorate in Valencia, I made a proposal to study at the DENAMIC project framework, to assess the early exposures of OP pesticides and their effects on the methylation placenta genes in the children of the INMA Valencia birth cohort, and their effects in neuropsychological development. However, I had to change the main objectives, because it was impossible to measure the expression of placental genes of the INMA birth cohort, due to technical issues. Therefore, I encouraged my research team in Granada, to develop my original post doctorate project proposal. Thus, we developed the “GENEIDA" project birth cohort to assess the early exposures to persistent and non-persistent pesticides, other pollutants and other emerging environmental pollutants, potentially associated to the fetal methylated placental genes. To date, I am the author or coauthor of 4 books; 3 book chapters; and 32 scientific papers; the papers were more than 78% (25) in the first quartile (Q1), 7 of them in the first decile (D1); 12.5% (4) in Q2; 3% (1) in Q3; and 6.25% (2) in Q4. I have more than 2000 citations and an H-Index of 23. According to Scholar Google https://scholar.google.es/citations?user=-x0ue4UAAAAJ&hl=es
