Bio
Deng is the Senior Scientist and Manager of the Sea Around Us research initiative (www.seaaroundus.org) at the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries, University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) and is one of the creators and current lead of SeaLifeBase (www.sealifebase.org). She is a University of the Philippines alumna with a PhD from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Toulouse (France). Deng worked as the Database Scientist with the FishBase Project (www.fishbase.org) at the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM, Manila, Philippines) for 10 years before joining the Sea Around Us team in 2001. She serves as Science Director for Quantitative Aquatics and is a member of its Board of Trustees as the current FishBase Consortium Coordinator. She is one of two Specialty Chief Editors of the Frontiers in Marine Science section on Marine Fisheries, Aquaculture and Living Resources. Deng is fluent in Tagalog, English and French and has functional understanding of Spanish.
