Career Trajectory
Bio
Martín Gascón is originally from Argentina, studied Physics at University of Zaragoza (Spain) in 2005 and earned his PhD in Nuclear Physics at University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 2010. His PhD thesis was centered in the construction of a gamma-ray and light charged particles detector for the study of nuclear reactions with radioactive beams at relativistic energies. During his PhD, he was awarded a Graduate Fellowship by Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain. He made short stays of some months at several European facilites e.g. Heavy Ions Society (GSI) in Germany, Institut de la Physique Nucleaire (France) and University of Lund in Sweden. He participated in numerous experiments in Nuclear Physics at several accelerator facilities all around Europe and was part of the European project EuroTrans (European program for the transmutation of radioactive waste with particle accelerators). He had a 2 years postdoctoral position at Stanford and his research activities involved studying the non-proportionality response of scintillator materials at low temperatures and high pressures. He is now at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He attended to 22 international conferences and published more than 40 articles in peer-review publications.
