Bio
Masami Fukuda received the B.Sc. and M.S. degrees in physical geography from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, and the Ph.D. degree in geophysics from Hokkaido University, Hokkaido, Japan.
He conducted experimental and theoretical studies on the process of water migration in freezing soil at the University of California Davis, Davis. At the Institute of Low Temperature Science, Hokkaido University, from 1974 to 2007, he has engaged on the research of permafrost characteristics in Siberia, Alaska, and Antarctica. The dynamic process of permafrost degradation under the global warming is his present research topic. In 2007, he joined the International Arctic Research Center, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Fairbanks, and continued his major research mostly in Alaska. He is now with Fukuyama City University, Fukuyama, Japan. He has published many papers related to permafrost occurrences in Siberia and Alaska in scientific journals.
