Bio
Dr. Mohammed Hussein is Professor in Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering in Qatar University. His main area of expertise is Structural Dynamics and Vibration with particular interest in Railway Dynamics, Ground-borne Vibration, Soil-Structure interaction, Structural-Health Monitoring and Human-Structure interaction. He is a currently member of the Editorial Board for Transportation Geotechnics Journal. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and served before as a Director of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV). Dr. Hussein joined Qatar University in 2014 as Associate Professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 2021. He worked before as postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge from 2005 to 2006, Lecturer at the University of Nottingham from 2006 to 2013, and Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton from 2013 to 2014. He completed his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2005. He currently teaches a number of courses at Qatar University in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels including a course on Railway Track Engineering. His research work has resulted in more than 100 publications. He is a co-developer of the PiP software and MOTIV software for calculating vibration from railways. Dr. Hussein has been recipient of major research grants from the industry, QNRF in Qatar, and previously from EPSRC while at the UK.
