Bio
Currently I am doing my second postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Bomont in the INMG of Lyon. My main project focuses on the development of a gene therapy approach for the treatment of Giant Axonal Neuropathy, a pediatric neurodegenerative pathology.
I did my PhD in the characterization of the neuroprotective effects of cannabidiol in newborn hypoxic‐ischemic brain damage. It was a challenging translational project between the Complutense University and the Hospitals Clínico and Puerta de Hierro. This combination of clinical and basic science gave me a comprehensive understanding of the complex global processes that could lead to axon and myelin damage, in which the link between oxidative stress and excitotoxicity is critical. Furthermore, I could study how cannabinoids can modulate it, reducing the oxidative stress and thus the damage.
After that, I moved to Montpellier to work in Nicolas Tricaud's lab to do my first postdoctoral stage. During this period I was able to work in two different projects. The first one focused on unraveling the metabolic link between axons and astrocytes in Multiple Sclerosis. While the second one was mostly focused on the modulation of mitochondrial calcium by VDAC1 in demyelinating diseases. Through these projects, I complemented my formation about the molecular and cellular bases of complex neuropathologies, that I am now applying in the study of GAN.
