- Authored a large number of plenary and invited oral presentations & other communications in specialized congresses.
Main scientific contributions.
- Made scientific contributions toward:
i) elucidating the detailed mechanism of different types of chemical reactions,
ii) understanding the oxidation of amines, amino acids, thiols and organic sulphides during both water disinfection and the initial respiratory burst in cells, in relation with the biochemical origin of oxidative stress,
iii) understanding the way different ubiquitous persistent organic pollutants, classified as either persistent, emergent, prioritary or endocrine disruptors, such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, etc., degrade upon uptake of sunlight, following UV-Vis irradiation or by heterogeneous photocatalysis
iv) developing photocatalysts & functionalized surfaces (nanosized and films), for advanced oxidation processes & green chemistry
Research interests.
- mechanisms through which degradation of water pollutants take place, more specifically for persistent organic pollutants,
- occurrence, fate and assessment of persistent organic pollutants,
- developing clean and sustainable technologies, based on advanced oxidation processes, for degradation of persistent organic pollutants,
- mechanisms through which oxidation reactions involved in processes of inflammation, biological aging and cell-death take place,
- photochemistry and photocatalysis
- scientific communication, with emphasis on the divulgation and popularization of Chemistry.
