个人简介
Maarten Bassier (May 11, 1991) graduated from the Faculty of Engineering Technology Construction/Surveying in 2013 (KU Leuven). After achieving high distinction for his thesis on the development of GIS databases for heritage applications, he started as a researcher in the Geomatics research group at the KU Leuven Technology cluster Construction in the Department of Civil Engineering. Under the supervision of Dr. ir. Arch. B. Van Genechten, he started his PhD which focuses on the automated creation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) objects from point cloud data. In 2015, he gave a number of courses on the topic of photogrammetry, laser scanning and BIM technology. Additionally, he was recognized as a certified facilitator for the training of heritage students at the Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation (RLICC). In the meantime, he continued his research in close collaboration with Leica Geosystems and the scan-to-BIM company 3DGeosolutions resulting in several publications on data acquisition workflows for building surveying.
In 2016, he continued his PhD under the supervision of Prof. dr. ir. M. Vergauwen with a strong emphasis on point cloud interpretation using machine learning and computer vision techniques. For his research, he was awarded best paper presentation award at the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing conference. Aside from his own topic, he contributed to projects such as the V4Design European Union's Horizon 2020 project and continued training professional surveyors in BIM technology. In 2017, he was invited to sit on the editorial board of the journal of Building Information Modeling, Data & Semantics. Also, he developed software solutions that combines remote sensing data and serious gaming technology for data interpretation purposes. He was involved in the gamification of the Gravensteen Castle and the Sint-Niklaas church in Ghent, Belgium.
