Bio
Prof. Mounawer Badri received his Bachelor degree in Natural Sciences from the Faculty of Sciences of Bizerte in 2000, and Masters, PhD, and HDR degrees in Plant Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis in 2002, 2008, and 2017, respectively. Prof. Badri did many internships in the framework of his PhD thesis and his postdoctoral training in France and United States, respectively. He was recruited at the Centre of Biotechnology of Borj Cedria (CBBC) in October 2007, which helped him in developing strong leadership among scientists in his research organization, and reinforced his interaction in Tunisia and in Africa with experts in his domain. He was promoted to the position of Associate Professor at CBBC in 2018.
Prof. Badri has interest in development of genetic resources and use of recombinant inbred lines populations and natural variation for identification and characterization of genetic bases for tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses in the model legume M. truncatula and M. sativa. He established a very important collection of natural populations of Medicago species, Hordeum marinum, Sulla carnosa, and created many populations of Recombinant Inbreed lines (RILs). These invaluable collections and resources created, are well characterized now and shared with very renowned scientists from international community, under transparent legal arrangements and material transfer agreements beneficial to all parties.
Prof. Badri co-authored over 40 publications with Impact Factor, and over 20 international articles as book chapters and proceedings of international congresses. He contributed to the organization of over 15 International congresses and courses in Tunisia and abroad and he reviewed papers for many International Journals.
Prof. Badri supervised many undergraduate and graduate students and developed collaborative projects with Algerian, South African, French, Indian and US teams where he leaded and involved Tunisian groups.
Prof. Badri is the President of the Tunisian Association of Genetic Resources (TAGR) since April 2012 and he is the Coordinator of the scientific comitee of the Covid-19 at the CBBC since March 2020. He was also the Coordinator of the Laboratory of Extremophile Plants (LPE) at the CBBC from November 8th, 2016 to September 28th, 2017.
