Bio
Scientific contributions: My body of research has focused on strength training and other factors that influence performance, such as nutritional, psychological and physiological, etc. factors.
I currently have two six-year research awards (las in 2018). My research has resulted in 139 indexed articles (23 Q1;16 Q2; Total citations: 495 in Web of Science; 632 in Scopus; 1016 in Researchgate and 1985 Google Scholar; h-index: 11 in Web of Science; 16 in Scopus; 25 in Google Scholar, 17 in Researchgate). Some of this work is framed in the 16 research projects in which I have participated as a researcher, three of them as principal investigator: RTI2018-099723-B-I00 31.097€ and B-CTS-184-UGR20 30.000€ in the European framework and one internationally with UCSC Chile N-01-2018 166.530€. We have a joint project with mathematics and statistics professors to create a dynamometric map of the human body to be applied in the field of sports training and the health of the general population. We have also facilitated the creation of functional laboratories around the world with similar characteristics for force measurement using functional electromechanical dynamometry (FEDM). Some of my main scientific achievements have been the creation in 2009 of a research group (CTS642 IDAFISAD) focused on the evaluation and training of strength in different fields; the formation in 2015 of the Pleokinetic Network, an international network to share knowledge and coordinate the study of strength in humans from various perspectives. Currently, there are 7 American countries in the network. Participants include universities, companies and, sports clubs, related to performance, leisure, and Health.
Contributions to society: My most significant contributions have come in conjunction with my research group, which has developed performance monitoring tools, resulting in several patents (4). While many of these patents have advanced the study of strength in humans, the most significant example is the functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEDM) which controls and develops strength. In the medium and long term, I will continue working to optimize fitness, health and performance. Optimizing these tests and coordinating scientific-technical teams fulfills a double objective: maximizing sports and work performance and reducing the risk of injury. I would also like to consolidate the multidisciplinary and multigroup work around the study of strength in different scientific fields and in different countries (especially Latin American countries).
Workout input: Since I started my university teaching career in 1994 in the Faculty of Education from Seville and my subsequent entry into the Faculty of Sports Sciences at the University of Granada, I have gone through different professional categories from Associate to Full Professor, a position I have held since 2003. I have directed PhD programs in Sport Science Research, and I currently direct the Official Master's Degree in Physical Activity and Health Research at the University of Granada. I have directed more than 100 Master's theses, which have resulted in 32 doctoral theses. Two of the theses defended in the last year obtained an international mention. To disseminate these results, I have written several book chapters, participated in more than 100 contributions to conferences, and been a reviewer in several scientific journals.
