Bio
Luca UZIELLI was born in Florence (Italy) in 1943.
Married, two children, four grand-children.
Graduated in 1961 from a "Classical" general High School in Florence, received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971 from University of Bologna.
In 1971-72 served as drafted Lieutenant in Italian Army's Engineering Corps.
1989-2014 Full Professor of "Wood Technology" at Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry - University of Florence.
Nov.1, 2014 retired due to age limit; still active, associate with University of Florence, GESAAF Department
Developed his scientific and teaching activity mainly at University of Florence, and performed many study visits abroad, in Europe, USA, and other areas of the world. Has headed several national and international research projects, and organized several national and international congresses. Member of several Standardization Committees (UNI, CEN, ISO) in the Wood and Cultural Heritage sector.

AIGR Associazione Italiana di Genio rurale (Italian Society of Agricultural Engineers)

Has been Chairman of COST Action IE0601 "Wood Science for Conservation of Cultural Heritage" (2007-2011).
Author or co-Author of over 100 publications, including technical and scientific papers and chapters in textbooks, covering mainly a) Properties, test methods, standardization, uses of wood species and wood products, incIuding tropical woods and structural uses of timber, and b) Conservation of wooden objects and artworks belonging to Cultural Heritage (panel paintings, timber structures, wooden sculptures, etc.).
Has taught university courses concerning Wood Science and Technology from 1979, and in PhD curriculum "Forest economy, planning and management, and Wood Science".
1996-2007 was Chairman of University graduate course (3 years) in Wood Technology.
Has been Director of over 120 Graduation final works, and of 12 PhD Theses (three of which in co-direction with foreign Colleagues). Since 1992, Partner or Coordinator of "Tempus" and other cooperation programs with Agricultural University ofTirana (Albania), from which he received in 2006 the title of "Doctor Honoris Causa".
Presently dealing mainly with the following subjects:
- Conservation of wooden Cultural Heritage (technological evaluation of panel paintings; relationships
between environmental thermohygrometric parameters, their variations, distortion dynamics of panel
paintings, consequent stresses, damage of paint layers, etc.) in cooperation with several outstanding
Italian and foreign institutions in charge of restoration and conservation of artworks
- Inspection and evaluation of load-bearing structural timber (including existing timber structures
belonging to Cultural Heritage).
